How many of you have tried using fuel economy enhancing pills, additives, or other gadgets that claim to boost your fuel economy? I'm telling you today that no matter what your results, you should always approach devices or products with claims of better fuel economy with skepticism.

I've seen a lot of things I've laughed at, and some that seem more likely to help, but just remember- if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There are likely thousands of products that claim to boost your fuel economy, but how many of them actually work? Not many, and there are several lawsuits going on to stop bogus claims from such devices.

I've tried some of these things and I've heard from some of you, too. The fuel pills are...

....and what has it done for you? Have you not used it to see?

There are some good fuel additives that help fuel economy and engine performance.

Hey boy, any time someone comes on here with one or two posts expounding a worthless product like you are doing most just laugh because they know you are just spamming the board.

Please show proof this garbage works. Show valid independent testing results outside the advertising hype you are quoting, you wont and you cant.

If something is marketed stating that it'll dramatically increase your MPG, be very skeptical, because more than likely, it's a scam. To maximize your MPG, keep your vehicle well maintained. It sounds so simple, but it's true!

Be very sceptical, because the majority of the claims are out and out lying.

This is also true for the miraculous cheap electronic chip that claims to boos your mpg.

there's only one way to get better MPG: buy a more fuel efficient vehicle - or use your own feet.

Everyone wants better MPG.
But as most of us have already said, most gadgets don't do anything.
The original manufacturers MPG specs seem to hold steady.

People to get sucked into these claims unfortunately, we all need to become more educated. I remember my grand mother telling me, just like the arcticle says, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.", and I'm sure her mother said the same thing to her. This isn't rocket science, just common sense.

One thing to remember, if all of these snake oil remedies worked the automakers would be endorsing them. Stay up on required scheduled maintenance and oil changes based on the recomendation of the automakers. You may pay a little for these services but look how much it'll cost for a repair based on neglect.

keeping the engine "tuned up" does help increase gas mileage, and it only needs be done every 100,000 miles or so.

The thing that has seemed to actually work I found in my new Ford (new is relative - 3 years old) owners manual - where they have actually worked out that in my Focus 400 lbs = 1 mpg of wasted gas milage. I have thus reduced the amount of crap I carry around and behold - I did get better milage.
