With the flurry of pros and cons of the electric car articles written, we tend to lose the bigger scope of why these cars are showing up on our streets.

It seems everyone has a point of view, sometime visceral about electric cars, EV these days. With all the pros and cons electric car articles, how about those gasoline cars?

It's always good to look at the pros and cons before making a decision.

One benefit is, they're not electric.

EVs have their place (short commutes and city driving). Large pick-ups have their place (rural country, work vehicles for hauling, etc.). But not all vehicles are best for all environments (i.e. Dual-rear wheel F-350 in Manhattan, New York).

Be a smart shopper and research what is best for what you need (not what you want).

A few good insights!

One of the cons: Sending money to enemies who use it fighting against the principle that made our nation a desirable place to live!

Use of electricity isn't free and we don't have enough non-polluting plants generating that now, so one must weigh the cost of owning a gas vs. electric/hybrid car carefully.

- Cost and disposal of batteries,
- Cost of fuel (electricity cost $0.20+/kWh here),
- Capital expenditure of buying the electric/hybrid cars,
- Limited range,
- Maintenance, etc.

It doesn't add up for me now. Maybe someday . . .

I look forward to owning a used electric car. I like the idea, but not at that price.

As far as EVs and hybrid EVs go... no thanks. I will stick with a fossil fuel powered vehicle.

EV=city car. With gas cars getting better mileage, I'll keep my fuelley. And if the US would allow the 70-110mpg cars already being produced, into this country, there would be no need for EVs.

the only way the EV's will be any good is when you can drive one up to a fill station pop the top off the battery and pour in a fresh charge and your on your way ............

EVs are not a bad idea, they're just impractical outside one's neighborhood. If one wants an EV to go to the grocery store and a GV to leave town, fine. Until an EV can do both AND get the cost down, it's hard to argue they're worth the effort.

When there are more recharging stations around the USA, I will consider driving an electric car across country!
