I happen to be very fond of organic Maple Syrup from Vermont.
I'm glad the wise folks of Vermont decided not to risk their water supply with fracking chemicals .

A waste of government time and money to ban something that will never be done in the state.

LOL, tea continues to fear the boogie man!
Carefully perusing even Tea's erroneous info one must notice the following information linked by Fracfocus to "trade secret" OSHA rules, where it states that ALL CHEMICALS MUST BE LABELED AND IDENTIFIED, there are NO SECRETS.
See that ‡ in Fracfocus disclosure???
It leads you to....
From OSHA: "Trade secret" means any confidential formula, pattern, process, device, information or compilation of information that is used in an employer's business, and that gives the employer an opportunity to obtain an advantage over competitors who do not know or use it. Appendix D sets out the criteria to be used in evaluating trade secrets.
PDQ, 2 questions:
1. What phony list do you refer to?
2. What do you mean by "without fighting it in court"...do you not believe in our countries freedoms and innocent until proven guilty???
Humbly awaiting your response.
It is obvious that Teafortwo does not believe in that basic tenet of our country's freedoms. EVERY CHEMICAL MUST BE DISCLOSED BY LAW

Three cheers for Vermont. Other states are also considering this to protect their water from the frackers.
Excellent comments PDQBlues. Well said. I know exactly what you mean about the partial list of chemical information. The frackers are still hiding behind the "trade secret" loopholes they built for themselves. The FracFocus website which has been MIS-represented as the industries disclosure website but is simply more industry hocus-pocus. The site is extremely convoluted and incomplete ... which sadly is what we have come to expect from the oil & gas industry. That and a whole industry built around churning out dis-information by thugs and spin doctors.
Why is it that when frackers talk about their safety record, they say fracking has been done "safely" for over 50 years. AND YET, the FrackFocus records only go back to January 2011. Hello. A whole 16 months of partial records? Seriously? More OIL & GAS industry bait and switch.
How many times have GasBuddies been told there are no secrets in the fracking "secret sauce"?
Quotes from the FracFocus website:
FAQ - "I know there are wells in my area that have been fractured, but when I search for them I get no results. Why?
The most likely reasons are that either the wells were fractured before January 1, 2011 or they have not yet been entered into the system. Only wells fractured after January 1st will be entered into the system ..."
FAQ - "What chemicals are being disclosed on this website?
All chemicals that would appear on a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) that are used to hydraulically fracture a well except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions related to MSDS found on the Trade Secret link at 1910.1200(i)(1)."
except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions except for those that can be kept proprietary based on the “Trade Secret” ‡ provisions
So for folks whose water was contaminated before January 2011 by unknown "trade secret" chemicals?

I can understand why Vermont would be the first state to put a ban on fracking..... they have no fossil fuel resources!!
The EIA has even published a report:
http://205.254.135.7/state/state-energy-profiles-analysis.cfm?sid=VT
It even goes on to state that: " Vermont generates a higher percentage of its electricity from nuclear power than any other State. The Vermont Yankee nuclear plant typically accounts for about three-fourths of total electricity generation."
And: "In March 2008, Vermont adopted a renewable energy goal to produce 25 percent of the energy consumed in the State from renewable sources, in particular from the State’s farms and forests, by 2025."
And the one I really love: " Because it has no air quality non-attainment areas, Vermont allows the statewide use of conventional motor gasoline."
Yup! Vermont definitely has the right reasons to ban fracking and make "brownie points"... or should it be "greenie points".... through media hype on their environmental "concerns"!!!!

I have great respect for Vermont. The people there understand that the exchange for money and business for their health and lives is a bad trade. Until the fracking industry can come clean about ALL the chemicals used in fracking (and not some phony partial list) and promise to pay any and all costs associated with water contamination that occurs afterwards (without fighting it in court, tooth and nail), then maybe people would be more open to the procedure.

Water is essential to life.
AND tastes so much better without:
hydrocarbons arsenic heavy metals "trade secret" fracking sauce
Make mine a glass of pure fresh water, please :0}
Part of the problem is that the Earth acts as a giant filter for our water table. Water aquifers and rivers flow beyond state boundaries.
This is why we need Federal Regulation of these frackers activities. They think filling the Earth with toxic chemicals is OK when there's a big enough profit.

Hogwash! We inject chemicals into practically everything. Every human injects chemicals into their own body daily - it's called eating. Should we ban eating?

I looked at a map that shows there is no Utica Shale or Marcellus Shale under Vermont. That's what they've been fracking lately. I don't know if there is any other kind of shale in the Northeast that has gas & oil or not:Shale Maps from Geology.Com
