ditto John747, it's refreshing to see the good about law enforcement, the strategy used to corral the anarchy will be a model for other areas that have this same situation... "The Chicago Way"

Hat off the the CPD and other law enforcement agencies. If you look back at previous NATO meetings you'll see a whole lotta bad things happening in the streets.

I'll never understand the reasoning for a live remote outside a closed business, expressway overpass, a police staion or courthouse. Save some money and use the green-screen.

It must be very satisfying to be 20-some years old and know how to solve all of the worlds problems. Now if only they could put some of their knowledge to some good use and get a job!

I think this is a way for a bunch of bored yahoos to stir up some amusement on a hot weekend... why go to the pool when you can create public disorder?

Really, thats it? This is what so many people were afraid of? This has got to be the biggest over-reaction since Y2K.
I hope they caught the punk that threw red paint on the South east corner Michigan Ave Bridge sculpture.

Plenty of choice spots at our Metra parking lot this morning, no security checks. Only 12 people on my half of the train coach, the quiet car has never been so quiet.( I was able to sneek on my breakfast items and my lunch in my oversized breifcase, please do not tell the authorities) There were a bunch of security guards watching us get off the train at LaSalle St. Cops beginning to deploy on streets in the loop, no riot gear, was able to walk wherever I wanted, no problem.

Does anyone know what that high altitude multi-engine jet was that was flying around in a large circle above the city yesterday afternoon? Was it an USAF AWACS jet?

I'm getting away from Tinley Park and heading downtown where it is safe!!
"Black Bloq" group storms Winston's Market and Ashford house.

I've been watching the news tonight and find it interesting that the marchers are expressing their civil rights, but on numerous occasions they have prevented reporters from doing their jobs.

So far the protesters appear to be random groups of self important idiots. All this random wandering through the Loop and knocking over the Police isn't going to play well here. They better watch themselves, or they will destroy whats left of the little credibility that the Occupy Movement may have had.

benjy, let me assure you, they are ready for them....

They want to make a statement and bring attention to there cause. And some think destruction is the way to do it (I AM NOT AGREEING, JUST STATING FACTS).. They aren't going to go to englewood, they are going to do it where the media will cover it... and they masks because they are cowards... unfortunately there are the other protestors that just want to protest.
but they have done some unexpected things like going into office buildings and overwhelming meager security staff..

But the real terrorists are who everyone is concerned about. Making a statement or attempting to harm people. hopefully things will stay under control.. law enforcement men and women need our prayers. As well as the other city workers that could be in harms way...

Reb mosta these guys might b peaceful but their is a group, bigger than a handful that want nothing but to see destruction of our City. If they think they got big balls, let em pull this crap in Englewood or on the West side. It's all about their own news media. Why wear masks? If you stand for a point b proud of it, don't hide your faces.

Rak9466, yea, guess I've never seen them all in one place...

Looks like i'm working from home Tomorrow and Monday (yes!)

What's with Channel 2 and the covering of the tv overlooking Daley plaza?

I would prefer this to be a "no event"... hopefuly when tuesday arrives, I can agree...

Guy on train today said he saw a "swat team" on the top of city hall / county building yesterday...

I have nothing against protests as long as it's civil....

another person said that military people on leave in the area have been instructed NOT to wear uniforms downtown this week or Monday...

These protestors better turn it up a notch, I'm starting to lose interest; I've seen more heated protests by senior citizens at the Jewel checkout counter.

Beware the Black Block protestors!!!!!!
Jeez, this is the most over-hyped media event ever. It's funny watching the reporters trying to turn every little protest into a huge story. Even Metra has gone overboard with security measures. No food, drinks (Over 3 ounces)back packs, cases over 15"x15"x4" (What if my backpack is that size?)on Sat. Sun. and Monday. They can't collect all the tickets on the trains, how are they going to measure and check all the bags?
Reb4, I didn't know we had so many bike cops, they are everywhere.

This has been a great event for the plywood and window protection installers.

Parking is going to be seriously restricted come Friday downtown. Signs up on most of the main streets I walked by.

Noticed the daley center had small railing fensing (nothing major) around the Fountain, Picaso, and the eternal flame...

Lots of police on Bicycles. Noticed them in front of Prudential Building across from Millenium park, scene of the fracas Monday were protestors tried to get to Obama's campaign hq (unsuccessful). Also saw them at daley center (nothing happening... which is good).

Saw Chinook (?) helicopters going along lake to McCormick Place... Saw them flying over lake going north later in afternoon...

I wish I could take off Friday and Monday... or at least work from home...

City hall was closed today (at least when I tried to go and use the pedway at 6:50am).
